Leave it to Brandon...

We went to the gym yesterday and the boys stayed at the neighbors and we got a frantic call that Brandon's head was bleeding. So I sped home and he had gotten hit with a golf club on the top of the head. It split open and he has a cut about 1 1/2 inches long. My neighbor (a paramedic) looked at it and checked his eyes for a concussion and said stiches would just make it pretty so we could douse it in Neosporin and he should be fine. Needless to say, we have spent the last 24 hrs or so... staring at him hoping he won't trip or fall or roughhouse and split it back open. It has been interesting.

An Icy Mess...

So the ice has started to melt and wasn't nearly as bad as they said it would be! I ran out yesterday morning to get bread and milk and ran into a ton of moms and kids doing the same thing at the grocery store. All we had yesterday morning was a light mist of rain and a promise of impending doom... However, we waited and waited and it stayed rain. Late last night, it finally started to freeze and a layer of ice covered everything. This morning when I went out it was a little slick but not too bad. Brian and I had plans to go downtown tonight but not sure if the roads will freeze back up or what... May be a good night to stay in and watch "American Idol"...

Soccer starts again...

So indoor soccer has started again for Brandon. This past weekend they played their second game and did great. The place where we are playing has two other U8 teams that we played in the first season of indoor who decided they did not want to play us this season because we were too good. So the owners put us in a higher bracket with the U10 boys. This is Hunter's age group so he told us that Hunter could play on the team as well as the goalie. He was pumped!! Our first game we lost 8-2 but Brian spoke to the coach afterwards who said that they were an academy team and won several tournaments in that age group. Hunter knew a few of the boys from playing with the FC Dallas Academy team. We hung in there with them and it was a very exciting game. At the game on Saturday, we played the Yellow Jackets and we tied 9-9. It felt like we should have won but had a quarter where the defense hung Hunter out to dry in goal. It was another great game.

Brian is concerned that the boys will lose their confidence and get discouraged that we aren't winning like usual but I think they are smart enough to realize that the kids we are playing are much faster and bigger and we are hanging right in there with them. Brian has big hopes for these boys to play together in the future on a more competitive level and I keep telling him this is only proof of what they will be able to do. They are playing kids who are two years older and are doing great. It is much more exciting than watching them beat kids their own age 25-0. We are going to do a tournament in Feb that should be very telling as to how good they really are. Nonetheless, it has been exciting so far.

Brandon had a sleepover on Sat night with a friend from soccer so Hunter got to be an only child. We decided that hasn't happened since Brandon was born and he had a great time. He got to workout with us at the gym and then we went to Academy and got him his gear to go shooting and went to dinner at his choice. It was a quiet evening and we all decided that Brandon must be the crazy one around here because without him things were very calm. Brian and I both realized how much he is still the baby of the family because we worried about him while he was gone even though he is almost 8 yrs old.

Today they are enjoying the beautiful weather and playing outside!!

Not Much New...

So I think we are finally back in the groove of things... The kids are on a roll with their schoolwork. It seems like they are treading into new territory and learning new things. I have had to refresh on my solar system and geography to keep up! Hunter took his Spanish midterm and got an 88. He would have done even better if he had read the directions for one section where he got three wrong. I am really proud of him though.

The weather is giving the kids cabin fever. A few nice days would be nice so they could go outside during the day. They are making me crazy!! Soccer is starting to consume our lives which makes things feel a little more normal.

We are still talking of going to FL next month but the new airline rules and such are making it a little difficult. I think the kids would like a break and would like to see Grampa but all I can think of is the work I will come home to. If the right deal comes along I think we will go.

So I can't believe it is Wed already... I'm gonna throw dinner in the crock pot and try and get caught up with work...

Life Back to Normal??

I think now that the holidays have passed we may be able to get back to normal if we can figure out what that is... Soccer is getting ready to start back up and our schedule is filling up quickly!! Our week now involves soccer practices on Mon, Thurs and Friday. Then we have games on Sat and Sun... It doesn't leave much room for much else. The boys are happy which is what matters most.

Happy Birthday Hunter!!

So this is what "10" looks like!! Double digits now and he says he feels much older... We went to the hotel where Kirk works for his birthday and they had a great time. Everyone in the hotel knew it was his birthday and made a big deal about it. He loved the attention.

We went out to dinner at Blue Canyon which was delicious...

The hotel is beautiful and the kids had a great time running around the terrace outside our room. They wanted to stay and not come home...

Happy New Year!!

So we are into 2009 and the thought of resolutions has to hit us... Or a reflection on the past year and all the things we didn't do!! Brian has taken over cooking duties (which I have to admit I don't miss) and has done a great job. We have had baked tilapia, barbecue chicken breasts, salads, steamed veggies... Everything has been very good and he is doing a great job getting our family on the right track. I am committed to the gym this year. He has been working out at home and I am not gonna let him look better than me!! :)

We had close friends over for New Year's Eve and had a nice time. We played taboo and the girls creamed the boys... It helps when Starbucks references get you a few points!! We had Addy too and she didn't make it even close to midnight! The kids got to stay up late and had a sleepover and it was a lot of fun... Amy got me a cake for my birthday too!
